How Phosphorus Based-Fire Retardant Chemicals Contribute to Safer and More Sustainable Fire Safety
Broadview Technologies has long been a pioneer in fire retardant chemicals for a variety of applications. Over the years, we’ve developed several revolutionary flame retardants and intumescent agents under our INTUMAX® product line. And nearly all of our products are phosphorus-based and halogen free in order to adhere to the latest safety and environmental regulations.
Phophorus Fire Retardant Chemicals: an environmentally-friendly alternative
In the early days of flame retardants, several different polymers were used in development in order to meet fire safety standards. However, researchers discovered that certain halogenated chemicals (compounds that contain at least one halogen atom, typically in place of a hydrogen one) are toxic to the environment and to people. Brominated flame retardants in particular are either banned or heavily regulated due to their toxicity. In response, manufacturers turned to other polymers as a basis for safer, more environmentally-friendly retardants like phosphorus.
INTUMAX®: Broadview’s Proprietary Non-Halogenated Phosphate Technology
All of our fire retardant chemicals here at Broadview are made to be phosphate-based and non-halogenated so that our customers can be sure they’re getting products that are safer and more sustainable than other flame retardants. Our Intumax® products are entirely halogen free and won’t evolve into the highly toxic and corrosive gasses associated with less stable fire retardant chemicals. Plus, Intumax exhibits low water solubility and won’t leech out over time as other products tend to do.
Another benefit of Broadview’s Intumax® is the versatility of our product line. We’ve developed a wide range of Intumax fire retardants, each with their own particular applications and best-use cases. For instance, Intumax AC-3 is best suited for use in resins, like epoxies and polypropylene. AC-2 works best in epoxies and PVC, while Intumax DBK was designed for use in two-part urethane adhesives and acrylics. And all of our products offer the same, and often even better performance as other, less safe fire retardants and intumescent agents.
